Tinnitus is a whining, vibrating, whispering, whistling or other type of exasperating sound that happens in individual's ears and is caused by internal factors Tinnitus is normally occurs in most of the people but in some people, it may be the sign of some serious disease. Tinnitus may be permanent when it is due to the underlying disease or disorder of causing serious health problems.

Although in many cases the underlying cause is never found,there are many causes of tinnitus. Internal ear structures is one common cause along with nerve damage,or damage to the ear canal, ear drum. As well as wax buildup or foreign materials in the ears,age related hearing loss and ear changes can also cause tinnitus. Miscellaneous diseases like Meniere’s syndrome, thyroid disease, brain tumors, and Otosclerosis also may cause tinnitus. One more known cause of tinnitus is the exposure to loud noises continuously over an extended period of time.

Few tests that are helpful in diagnosing the underlying cause of tinnitus,there are. Important in determining what may be causing it,is the characteristics of the noise, ringing, buzzing, pulsing. While tinnitus that is characterized by a whooshing or pulsing noise like the heartbeat is usually vascular or muscle related,tinnitus that is characterized by a ringing or buzzing is usually caused by a verve problem. The hearing test which is called audiogram and computerized diagnostic tests like CT scans and MRI's can also bring out tumors and other problems that can cause tinnitus.

Unluckily it may be very difficult to know the core reasons for tinnitus. Those afflicted with this illness have a rought time finding helpful treatment and many have to suffer in silence about the whole thing.
